Angkor Centre for Conservation of Biodiversity
The ACCB's (Angkor Centre for Conservation of Biodiversity) goal is to contribute to the conservation of wildlife and biodiversity in Cambodia. The ACCB pursues various goals – from taking in confiscated animals, breeding for conservation purposes, and reintroducing endangered species to conducting research projects and environmental education. In doing so, the center's on-site staff "works" with animals, some of which have fewer than 300 individuals left.
Today, the center has grown and employs around 40 people. It cooperates with various species and environmental protection associations, as well as the Cambodian government.
Our overarching goals
The objectives of the ACCB have not changed since its founding:
- To take in and care for selected native animals and, where possible and in compliance with appropriate international standards, to release them into the wild.
- To breed selected endangered species and establish stable captive populations for future reintroduction or restocking of wild populations.
- To operate a training and continuing education center for the local population, schoolchildren, students, conservation agency employees, and visitors to raise environmental awareness and develop skills in conservation and environmental management, as well as to promote the sustainable use of natural resources.
- To conduct in situ conservation measures and field-based research relevant to species conservation in Cambodia, as well as to provide information for the future management of nature reserves.
- To educate the local population and provide training on sustainable use of natural resources.
